Domain Name Exercise

Objective

This exercise will demonstrate your ability to use the Whois utility.

Basic Instructions

The exercise is very simple.

• Pick a domain name, any domain name
• Do a Whois search to find the name
• Copy the search results and paste them into an email message.  Be sure you have the complete results including registrant, administrative contact, technical contact, name servers, etc.
• Send me the email message.

Submittal Instructions

Be sure to include your name and 7-digit STUDENT ID in your email message.

Include WEB-230 Whois Search in your email subject line.

Send the file as plain text. No attachments, please.

Be sure to send a cc of the submittal to yourself.  If you don't receive your copy then I probably will not receive a copy either.

Finally, be sure to save your work in case it becomes lost or is corrupted during transmission.  If there is a problem, I will request a copy of your backup.

Grading Criteria

• Failure to select a valid name (-50 points)

• Failure to submit the exercise via email (-20 points)

• Failure to provide all the Whois data (-10 points per missing data entry)

• Failure to properly identify yourself will result in a 10 point deduction.

I will reply to confirm receipt and post your grade on our Web site within one week.
